GROUPS
The reason I have chose groups is because it sparks many ideas into my head. I have thought of loads ideas for this project such as groups of people in cities going about their daily lives, anonymous to their surroundings or to find groups of natural objects. This may be hard because its difficult to find trees and such in natural groups. I would also like to go to high places and take photos of the ground below, with groups of people and cars, making them look like small groups. I like this idea because it uses perspective.
Groups is a great project as it is a very broad subject. There can be anything that can be in a group, whether it be natural or virtual . I am going to experiment with different perspectives of groups of objects.

Shoot 1
Shoot plan :
My plan for this shoot is to take pictures of the city of Bristol. I aim to take pictures from high places e.g car parks and high public areas. first I want to go to a car park that over looks busy roads and some buildings. I then want to take pictures from within the shopping center and around the area.

Critical Analysis
This photoshoot takes place in bristol, where my goal was to take pictures of tall buildings grouped together. I have chosen bristol as the setting for this shoot as it has relatively tall buildings that are quite close together. This shoot was successful as I achieved what I set out to do, with good quality. This shoot could have been improved by the editing of more pictures and taking pictures at a different perspective rather than just straight on, I hope to rectify this in my next shoot.

Shoot 2
Critical Analysis:
These photos were taken in Bristol and the focus of the images were architecture and groups of buildings. The reason I have chosen to take these pictures was because they are very intricate and complex in shape and size. I was influenced by Ben Brown who is the artist above. He influences my work as the buildings in his photos are very diverse in shape, and from a high point of view the way you look at them changes. I was also influenced by the settings and surroundings of my home town.
The groups of buildings consist of different shapes, sizes and colours. The range of the age of the buildings portrays an unplanned landscape which has developed over time. The lines of the buildings vary from horizontal to vertical to curved which adds to the distorted but intricate and detailed effect.
I like the lines and the busy aspect of the photos which was my intention having admired Ben Brown's work. To improve my work further I would go higher to get a birds eye view of the group of buildings.

Shoot 3
Here are some of the Images that I have edited
Critical analysis:
This shoot was set in Rhodes Greece where I set out to take pictures involving the different styles of archietecture that contrast the other shoots of modern archietecture. the white flat roofed buildings helped to achieve the different archietecture styles that greece has to offer.
I feel that this shoot was one of my more successful shoots as the setting helped encompass the goal of photographing groups of buildings, as the buildings were all situated very compactly. This shoot could have been improved if i had edited more of the photos taken.

The process of editing
To edit my photos i use Adobe Light room. firstly I add or decrease the exposure, then add contrast. next i add clarity and sharpen the image then add or decrease the saturationthen usually decrease the shadows and increase the temperature.

Some examples of his work
My attempt at his work
Critical analysis:
I feel that this shoot was very successful. This shoot has successfully used the skill and technique used by Cameron R Nielson. I have used the technique of taking images of buildings by looking up at the architecture above me. I have used the style of editing of Cameron R Neilson where you desaturate the colours and increase the contrast to create a simplistic image.

Shoot 4
Shoot plan :
For this shoot I want to go to the city center of Bristol to a car park for a hotel and take pictures of the main street through Bristol. I also want to find other vantage points where i can view the architecture and groups of buildings within Bristol. Although there are not many tall buildings in Bristol with impressive architecture I intend to find angles where I can change the perception of the buildings.

For this shoot i wanted to introduce a person into the foreground of my images whilst still having groups of buildings in the back ground. I also wanted to use the element of texture in the foreground of some of my images. The strengths of this shoot are the composition of the buildings and the use of aperture of the background or foreground.
Experiment
For this experiment I wanted to experiment with colour and trying to experiment with Photoshop.
Interim Review
My project began with my initial idea of looking at photographs of different types of groups. These included: stars, nature, people, cars and buildings. I decided to focus on buildings as there was a particular photographer whose work excited me. In my projects so far I have completed three photo shoots. The subject of the shoots is architecture with a specific focus on groups of buildings. I was inspired by the work of ben brown, a thirty year old photographer and videographer who is influenced by the places he visits. Many of his images grabbed my attention because of the spectacular shots from a birds eye view. I was fortunate to take my photography ideas to another country which added to the variation of buildings in my collection of images.
I feel that I have produced photographs with effective composition and line, with well thought out portrayal of angles as well as including a range of shapes and colour.Traditional city centre office blocks offered opportunities to display composition and line with their vertical appearance and uniform rectangular and square windows. Buildings from another country I have visited whilst doing my project adds interesting variation as architecture can be very different. For example in greece there are more flat roofed buildings and they are predominantly white in colour. In comparison to the tall office blocks in the centre of bristol, they create an image that is lower to the ground and more tightly compact. I wouldn't have this type of variation in composition if all my work was from one place. I think this is why ben browns work is so captivating.
The areas I would like to develop for my final piece of work include texture and exposure. Regarding texture, I would like to focus on more detail on the buildings surfaces. For example I could focus on buildings that are : cracked, glossed, smooth, rough, depending or the material used and the effect of outside elements. Ben brown has taken some images at night time using long exposure to create light trails and this is something I would like to develop in my own work. I can also improve my photographs by editing/ colour grading all of my work rather than a select few. I would also like to do my final piece in a new city that has lots of tall and eccentric buildings that are tightly situated together with some detailed intricate lines and texture.

Shoot 5
shoot plan :
for this shoot I wanted to take pictures at night so I could have visible light trails from cars. I wanted to capture the architectural design of bath whilst also capturing the light trails just as Harry Gallagher does in his images. I have edited the images to highlight the tones of the buildings within bath and in a similar way to Harry Gallagher.
Shoot Seven
Shoot plan :
For this shoot I am going to travel to London to take picture and show the different style of architecture. I plan to take photos of both old and modern architecture. The buildings that I want to take pictures of are: The Shard, Big Ben, The Gallery of London, and Westminster Abbey. I have planed a route through the city to make the best of all that the city has to offer, Photography wise. I want to take pictures in a different style and edit to enhance the detail and architecture of the buildings.

Critical Analysis:
I feel like this shoot was very successful. The images I have taken highlight the theme of groups well with the influence of architecture. I wanted to highlight the intricate, classic and modern style of architecture that London has to offer. The images I have taken were enhanced with colour editing using Lightroom. I have enhanced the colours to highlight the colour scheme of the cities materials and natural colours. I was influenced by the scenary around me to create and capture intresting images

My final piece
Evaluation
The main theme of my work is about Groups of buildings and archietecture. In the images is many white flat roofed Greek buildingssituated very tightly together. This relates to my theme because it includes a huge cluster of buildings in large groups which was my initial idea from the start. This piece was inspired by Ben Brown as i was influenced by his images of large clusters/groups of buildings all situated very tightly together, which gives the effect of a sort of busy where's wally puzzle. The idea behind this image was to create a landscape in which is really busy with lots of buildings similar to ben browns piece of the buildings in rio de janeiro where the tall white building look as if they are stacked on top of one another. I have used the element of composition to have the buildings situated so that it looks extreamly busy as i am on a tall hill looking down upon the buildings. I have also used the element of colour as all of the buildings are a bright white and the roof's contrast the whites with an orenge tone of red, i have enhanced these colours with editing on light room. The image was taken at a 1/500 shutter speed.
